Runner @ Halfway point
Keep the wind off the chin and stay fashionable!
Defend your legs against the chill! These G2 Wind Defence Compression Tights have breathable, brushed membrane front panels to protect against wind and rain, while being super lightweight.
Trail shoes are essential on this rugged course. Good grip will save you valuable time and allow you to navigate the course safely. The Saucony Peregrine is ideal for this kind of running with a great mix of cushioning and traction.
Off road running socks provide more warmth and are padded around the ankles for protection from debris. Try a Hilly Monoskin Merino Offroad Running Anklet sock to keep your feet toasty and blister free.
In order to carry all the essentials and mandatory kit, a well-fitting pack will allow you to run in comfort and ensure there’s no chafing or bounce. The Inov8 Race Elite and Inov8 All Terrain Pro provide enough storage for mandatory kit, extra fluids ... and even include a whistle (another essential kit item!).
A close-fitting base layer will give you the insulation and warmth you need whilst allowing moisture to be wicked away from the body. This should be a tight, next-to-skin fit. A merino wool base layer will retain its thermal benefits even when wet and is the perfect balance between warm and breathable.
Keep your extremities toasty and enjoy the race without the pain of frozen hands. A windproof option might be worth considering if you are prone to cold hands. The Ronhill Wind-Block provides superior warmth and protection.
The most important item on the list! A powerful, fully charged head torch will allow you to plan your path and allow safe foot placement (we recommend 160 lumens+).
The Petzl Reactik+ Head Torch uses reactive lighting technology that adjusts its brightness automatically to the level of ambient light surrounding you. With 300 lumens on max power (burn time 2hrs30) and 170 on standard (5hrs) it is an excellent option for off-road running and certainly fits the mandatory kit criteria.
Prevent excess heat loss by wearing an insulating layer on your head. It also adds comfort when wearing a headtorch. Ronhill’s merino hat has a great fit and superior warmth.
As part of the mandatory kit, a fully waterproof jacket is essential to protect you from the Scottish elements. A Ronhill Infinity Torrent jacket will give you full protection from the wind and rain, whilst remaining breathable and packable.
You will definitely shine at night thanks to its reflective taping!
