?
Tights
Full length tights keep you warm on a cold dark night. Windproof options such as the Gore Mythos will provide extra protection from the windchill and offer a warm fleece feel next to the skin.
?
Trail Shoes
Trail shoes are essential on this rugged course. Good grip will save you valuable time and allow you to navigate the course safely. The Saucony Peregrine is ideal for this kind of running with a great mix of cushioning and traction.
?
Running socks
Off road running socks provide more warmth and are padded around the ankles for protection from debris. Try a Hilly Vista to keep your feet toasty and blister free.
?
Running Pack
In order to carry all the essentials and mandatory kit, a well fitting pack will allow you to run in comfort and ensure there’s no chaffing or bounce. If you also want to carry some fluids then Nathan packs provide a great selection.
?
Baselayer
A close fitting base layer will give you the insulation and warmth you need whilst allowing moisture to be wicked away from the skin. This should be a tight, next to skin fit. A thermal, wind proof option like the Gore Essential is the perfect balance between warm and breathable.
?
Gloves
Keep your extremities toasty and enjoy the race without the pain of frozen hands. A wind proof option might be worth considering if you are prone to cold hands. The Ronhill Wind-block provides superior warmth and protection.
?
Head torch
The most important item on the list! A powerful, fully charged head torch will allow you to plan your path and allow safe foot placement (we recommend 160 lumens+).
The Cross Trail 2X head torch is a new addition to SILVA's popular and multi-functional Cross Trail 2 series, designed and developed with running, biking and XC skiing in mind. It features SILVA Intelligent Light which gives both a light ahead of you and a flow of light at your feet, allowing you to have better light control and increase your running speed. This head torch is water resistant (IPX6) and will withstand rain, snow and mud with ease.
?
Hat
Prevent excess heat loss by wearing an insulating layer on your head. It also adds comfort when wearing a headtorch. Ronhill’s merino hat has a great fit and superior warmth.
?
Jacket
As part of the mandatory kit, a fully waterproof jacket is essential to protect you from the Scottish elements. A Ronhill Tempest jacket will give you full protection from the wind and rain, whilst remaining breathable and packable. It conveniently comes with a whistle attached too (another essential kit item!).
